ryoder
Does the cowl closure make it take even longer to remove the cowling? Can you take it to an automotive paint shop and have them color match it and then have your mechanic install it with you? One more question not related to cowl closures. Does anyone remove the baggage door handle for more speed? It's just hanging ou there in the wind like my adf antenna.
Guest
The cowl closure does not make it harder to remove the cowl. You should be able to have the flour matched locally, just try to make sure the paint type is the same. As for the the door handle removal, parasitic drag slows the plane. Anything sticking out will slow the plane, cleaned and waxed helps also. Look at youtube fluid dynamics of drag part 4. Clarence
ryoder
Great video. Makes a good case for high wing stut fairings. I was surprised to see how much drag a wire caused. But is there a mod for the baggage door to remove the handle?
Guest
Don't know about handle removal. More interesting drag reduction. The owner has the fastest normally aspirated twin Comanche. http://www.hdneubert.com/Reno_Presentation.pdf Clarence
HRM
One more question not related to cowl closures. Does anyone remove the baggage door handle for more speed? It's just hanging ou there in the wind like my adf antenna. I removed the baggage door handle from my E and then had the holes filled in, smoothed and painted. They did such a good job you could not tell there was ever a handle there. After exhaustive testing I discovered a speed increase of 0.001 KTS TAS. Since I was not impressed with the gain I drilled out the filled holes and replaced the handle because opening the baggage door without it was tedious. jetdriven
I swapped a 1984 baggage door to my machine to replace the original, which has a metal tab to unlock the door. The later models are a flush handle.
