Where do Eurpoeans take their Mooneys for maintenance?

I bought my Mooney in France and now have it in Aberdeen...being a first time aircraft owner it is a steep learning curve to find out how and where to get things done! I have established contact with an A&P/IA based in S England and may have a location for doing the annual in East Lothian....I also have a place in Ste Maxime so I will be traveling through France a lot.....if love to hear from established Mooney owners any preferences for annuals, ad hoc maintenance issues, engine issues, avionics etc!

The J is pretty simple. Buy the parts and maintenance books (digital) from Mooney and try to establish a working relationship, through your local A&P with either a stateside or European MSC. Even insofar as to offer credit card payment for time spent educating your A&P over the phone or via video/email. The control system, behind the panel, fuel system, cabin structure, empenage and wing are uniquely Mooney.

Troyes are a competent lot, and Fracoise and JP will take care of you should you need. I'm very lucky in that I have Fritz Iseli A&P IA based at my home areodrome, and he was already looking after three or four Mooneys before I got mine, so the choice was quite easy.  That said, I'll probably be over to Troyes for the notorious 'backspring' when it comes up, as he is hesitant about some of the jobs (which I would rather, than me being a test case). I'm aware that Patrick (also here somewhere) has a good service from somewhere in mid-west France, and I also hear good things about the German organisations too.

I tend to do small stuff (like oil & filter, batteries, plugs) myself, but if I get unhappy, then I give Fritz a call

Hi !

I can only speak very highly of Joel Patault at Fly West in Fontenay le Comte (LFFK) near La Rochelle is an excellent mechanic and is looking after a growing fleet of Mooneys from all across France. His number is 06-0827-3463. He has been looking after my Mooney for several years now and prior to that my Robin. He has built a large brand new hangar for his outfit and has a stellar reputation.

I can also vouch for Aerotech in Coventry, Falcon at Biggin Hill and Shipping & Airlines there too, all experienced with Mooneys.

Avionics-wise I have been very happy with work from RGV in Gloucester and Aerodima in Nangis LFAI near Paris.

For parts we usually call LASAR or Aircraft Spruce directly in the US. LASAR offered exceptional service the rare times I needed parts.

Do you still have your Mooney?

I am looking at this? https://www.ataviation.uk/listings/mooney-305-rocket/#

I have previously kept and maintained an Archer 2 and I am a bit afraid of running a mooneyt in the UK ue to parts availability and cost. Any general advice?

May I ask, what you are spending a year for maintenance?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian

I've been away from the G-reg for more than 10 years now, so am well out of touch with who is where, but I would expect that Yvette at BFC Bristol and James at Fast Aviation Bournemouth (both of whom I'm in occasional contact with) will be either able to help you or give a further recommendation. No experience of a Rocket airframes or Continental engines either! On the whole, I've not had major problems with parts (other than the normal aviation markup on price) - the annual cost is very driven by the number and type of accessories and their needs for ICA compliance as well as the state of the whole aircraft when you acquire it.

I know someone who bought a (permit type) aircraft from that company, and solely on the basis of his experience with that particular aircraft, suggest that you get a very thorough pre-purchase inspection by someone independent from them. It might be of course that it was a particular unlucky case, but it's your money and choice

Good luck!

Ben

any suggestion for Mooney maintenance (FAA) in Italy or south of france ?

Let’s see if Andrew knows maintenance in the south of France… @Hyett6420

He flys through France often, but Netherlands may be the preferred maintenance stop…

Best regards,
