It appears that it finally got up off the mat and is fully TSO certified.

Pulled this off the Sarasota Avionics website under the specs tab: http://sarasotaavionics.com/avionics/ksn770-01

Certification: Fully TSO’d (more than a dozen including WAAS TSO-C146b), DO-178B, Level B, Level C and Level D, DO-254, DO-160E

Price looks great too (relatively speaking). Where's Bennett and bob when you need someone to upgrade?! :) I'm curious to see how it works. Be a shame if they produced something that is tough to program.

I wonder why then Sarasota is only advertising install only meaning they won't ship it?  Is that fairly standard?  I know when I got in on the Avidyne IFD540 vaporware deal, the unit could only be shipped to an Avidyne dealer and then in turn installed there.  The price on the KSN770 is attractive and not a whole lot more than early-bird price on the Avidyne especially considering the 540 is nowhere near being ready to ship.  Time to finally get my money back from them.  If Marauder would ever fly west I could get a peek at the Aspen in action and start thinking of spending some serious college fund money.   :o

If anybody happens across any pireps on the 770 please link them here.

BK may have a special dealer relationship with Sarasota giving them first access to the new product and hence, the right to ask that they install it.

As for the Aspens... have I got something brewing for you. A few guys sent me emails asking if I had any videos of my Aspens in action. I made a video of me flying the LPV at KEVY. It is being processed on YouTube. Not my best work (it was a bumpy ride) but it is in high def. Also have a small section on the video dedicated to you and traffic... I will post it in my STEC Malfunction thread..

From what I've seen, yes, this is pretty standard and not just for Sarasota.  When I was doing my research for upgrading my panel, every shop I went to would only sell brand new stuff if it was installed by them.  Seems to be pretty standardized across the board unless you have an experimental aircraft.  You can find used items all over the place (including eBay) if you want to go that route and have your local guy install it.

what i am looking forward to is the KT-74.

$2600 for a slide in replacement to the KT-76 and provides ADS-B out

a question remain on what WAAS source can be used. ( ie. whether Garmin will let them use the GPS as WAAS source since probably most if not all WAAS GPS are Garmin)

Actually it will work with any GPS as they output position info in a standard format , I.E.  RS232 or AIRINC429 ....

Wass is not a requirement for ADSB. What the ADS-B spec requires is that the output sentence from a ifr certified gps  contains a field that has a integrity check for the gps data. All the newer Wass units have this.  It is possible that King could release software update for some of their older non wass units 89b,90b and KLN94 to meet this requirement.  There are a lot of planes still flying with these boxes and it would make the KT 74 a very attractive option for those owners if they did.

I don't have the final quote back as they had a couple of questions on my current equipment and wanted to check with King on install time. I'll let you know as soon as I have it. I asked them if King was still honoring the $1000 discount that they were offering at Oshkosh and that was supposedly good thru year end. Informally the install cost should come in about 1-2 K more than a GTN 650 installation since the unit at $11289 discounted from Sarasota is a bit more but the installation should be about the same. Garmin has a $500 rebate going on now. Anybody up for a group buy?

If we can get a good deal, I would consider a group buy. Think it will be tough with their distribution strategy. We would need to buy and have it installed from one of their distributors, correct?

I would also be interested but I sure don't want to fly to Florida to have an install done.  Would be nice to find a local installer/shop that we all like.

Well there are a number of Bendix King dealers around here like Summit Aviation in Wilmington Dl or Penn Avionics in Phila. Or C & W in Caldwell NJ Those would be within an hour for all of us and are all top shops. In fact I think Penn Avionics is or was affiliated with Sarasota Avionics.

Funny you should mention Penn. My plane is there now. I will be speaking with Chris V tomorrow and will bring it up with him. He did my Aspen/Garmin/PS Engineering upgrade.

not an avionics expert here. but i am not sure that is the case:

take the Trigg 31 transponder for example, it is an ADS-B out transponder. however, if you look at the latest install manual - you can download it from their website - , the GNS 435/530 waas has been taken out as a WAAS source.

Not sure why, but i am thinking Garmin is trying to protect its investment ???

Good thinking. Maybe we can get comparison quotes. They have quoted me before so they can look up the specs on my A/C N20098 & me Cris Gleason.
