  1. Thank you but the plane has a Bruce’s cover. I’d definitely buy it if it didn’t.
  2. Another great bit of advice. Thank you. The Ovation seems to me like a traveling machine more so than going out in the previous 201 and just flying around locally.
  3. Thanks for the T/O flaps technique. I will definitely practice that!
  4. Hello, Looking for recommendations for an instructor somewhat close to Akron, OH for a check out in the Ovation. Over 1,000 hours in M20C and 201 but the 201 was sold back in 2018. The Ovation to me is much heavier and different the the 201. I am current and flying a Falcon 2000LX and Hawker 900XP but I want to be safe in the Ovation. Thank you, John Keck 724-759-9900
  5. eisenhard.net is a link from old MS forum. It is to fold seat forward but not recline back like you were looking for.
  6. Thank you for all of the great responses. Interesting that some 201 airplanes did not have the step installed. I think I will leave the antenna alone, get a folding step, and look/hope for skilled helpful hangar fairies. John
  7. Wow! Thank you for all of the great suggestions. The folding step, voltage advice, Wheln strobe with part number, audio suggestions. The audio panel I think is the original. (King?) The headsets are older generation Bose noise cancelling. Thanks again! John
  8. I have some projects needed for the M20J and any input would be appreciated. First, my airplane has no entry step. Do you think it will be expensive to add? Maybe get a used 201 step from a salvage yard? Would a 1978 need the engine shimmed or mounts and spacers (engine drooping) due to it's age? Is removing the "towel-rack"antenna on the tail a big deal? Both push-to-talk switches on control wheels transmit (I see tx on Garmin 530) but I can't hear anything in my headset. Anyone have that problem? With a new PTT switch on pilot's side it didn't fix the no audio feedback in headset problem. I have a new Plane Power alternator, Zeftronics voltage regulator, and new battery and I still get intermittent red Low Volts light on annunciator. I think I read where it could be bad diodes in annunciator panel. Also on the Maxwell website there is an article about cleaning the master switch posts for electrical fluctuations. Any recommendations for a much smaller LED rotating beacon on the aft underside to replace the huge original unit? I remember some earlier posts about replacements. The black control yokes are mostly good condition but have those chips or chunks out of the nice shiny black finish. I do need a complete Aero Comfort interior ($$$$), but do you have any touch up ideas for yokes? Thank you very much! John Keck 724-759-9900
  9. Hi Tim, Another vote for the 201 from me. I have a 1978 J with 2,800 hours, 1,000 smoh, O&N bladders, NDH, Aspen 1000, G530 (non-waas), Century III auto-pilot, JPI-711 engine monitor, Garmin Aera 810 (for nextrad wx), nice exterior paint and tired original interior. In this crap economy I doubt if I could get high $70's for it. I would try to buy a plane with as many upgrades as possible so you don't pay retail like the other poster said. Check FlightAware N201AJ for how often it flies. It is amazing how far they go on how little fuel. You will see slower speeds as I was experimenting with LOP operations. I seem to always encounter a headwind and my speeds are often 130-140 kts but other times I love seeing 170-185kts with a tailwind. Texas will be an awesome place to enjoy a Mooney with the good weather and no too much icing. It seems like the C and E models have some high asking prices these days compared to the J prices. All American in Texas might know of some off-market Mooneys for you. John
  10. I was having higher oil consumption later into my oil change and did not know about clean oil not using as much. I just had an oil change and filter and a total of 7 quarts (one Camguard). My mechanic looked all over the engine and said it was dry and no obvious leaks were there. My next flight was 3 hours and it didn't really use any oil ( dip stick at 6.5) doesn't some go to the oil filter? I read somewhere that hot days and high rpm will use oil. That was what I was doing. Wide open throttle from take off to cruise and 2500 rpm. Doing that and older oil might have been causing the higher consumption. John N201AJ
  11. Really nice! How far was the flight from Reno? Do you know if they could address my old cracked and yellowed plastic side panels without breaking the bank? Did you drop off the plane or pull the interior out? Thank you, John Keck 724-759-9900
  12. Did you sell the annunciator panel yet? Ours shows red low voltage light on intermittently with and new Plane power alternator, new voltage regulator, and new battery. I have read that it could be bad diodes. Anyone know of a fix other than replace the panel? Thank you! John Keck 724-759-9900 keck.john@zoominternet.net
  13. Probably would never happen but maybe new Asian owner could buy the design back from Daher-Socata. I can barely put gas in a 201 partnership airplane so I would not be a 301 prospective owner. How about a Tornado Alley Turbo powered M-22 Mustang without that ugly oversized dorsal fin and aerodynamic cleanup. At least the design probably still belongs to Mooney. John Keck
  14. Thank you! I read your review on Aircraft Spruce. Has anyone been able to get the RPM function to work? What a great price you got. It looks like they are $3029.00 now. John
