  1. Thank you! I did not realize it was that involved. What do you think about an additional 10 hours to: remove the DME display, remove old Apollo GPS, and moving radio #2 under the #1 radio in the stack?
  2. I was planning to install the Appareo to comply the ADS-B requirement. The avionics shop highly recommended the Garmin GTX345. Does anyone have an idea on the time to install in a 1963 M20C? He is quoting me 20 hours, and another 10 hours to move some radios around on the panel. Both hour quotes seem a little high. Thoughts about the GTX345 and/or hours required for the installation? Thanks!
  3. I need help! I am trying to be a conscientious as I can when running the O-360 on my 1963 M20C. I have been on forums, and read as many articles as I can find. The series of articles by John Deakin was very informative and technical. Based on the graphs in John's articles, he advocates adhering to a CHT limit of 400F. But he contends that each of the cylinders will read differently, so since I only have one gauge, it is very inaccurate. Additionally, he discusses leaning procedures, and contends that 50 LOP is about the worst place to run an engine. 50 LOP is exactly where some of the documentation I have read says to run the engine. John's articles are from 1999, and I assume there is some new thinking on how to run the O-360 from an economical standpoint, a power standpoint, and a wear and tear standpoint. I know I have spanned quite a few topics, but does anyone have either a concise explanation of the current logic on MP, RPM and leaning procedures? Alternatively, if there is a document that spells out the procedures, I would love to read it. I am wondering if I am out of luck having just one CHT and EGT gauge. Maybe it is time to invest in individual cylinder gauges! Thanks, Steve
  4. Thanks for all the input! I greatly appreciate all the time and effort put in to help a new Mooney pilot. I have a 1963 M20C with an O360 engine. Yes. Bob Kromer seems to be very well-versed in Mooney specifics. Here is the link to the article I read: http://www.mooneypilots.com/mapalog/cruisepower.html
  5. I read an interesting article by Bob Cromer discussing cruise power settings. I had never heard his advocacy of using full throttle for cruise. The flight manual shows a lower setting. Is this technique a generally accepted procedure? Thanks, Steve
  6. I heard that also. Not sure if my tanks have been fixed or not. Thanks!
  7. Interesting. My understanding is if there are any weak areas, or areas requiring attention on Mooney's, it is nose wheel issues.
  8. Takair, Thank you very much for your post re SB20-202. Just completed the mod at LASAR aviation at Lampson Field, Clear Lake CA. It is like a new plane! Like you said, there is an issue with the castor angle on some model Mooneys. Fix was relatively short. Took about 2 hours. I owe you!
  9. I don't think it is the linkage since the plane tracks straight. It is just on landing that I get the pilot induced oscillation. I'm guessing it is a pilot issue, and not a plane issue! Flying S Aviation at RHV has been doing the maintenance, and seem to be on top of things. LASAR has done some maintenance in the past, so I may take it back to them just to look it over. Smith Ranch is still active. I have only been there a few years, but from my understanding it used to be a very active airport with lots of BBQs etc. Quite a bit of car restoration takes place there now.
  10. Thanks for all the great posts. Look forward to learning from your experience. No tail wheel bashing though. Tail wheel pilots are people too!
  11. Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate it! I am upgrading from a Cessna 120 to a M20C, so I am looking forward to being able to take some luggage and actually take some trips! Plane is at Smith Ranch.
  12. I am a new M20C owner. I find the nose wheel steering to be much more sensitive than any other tricycle or tailwheel aircraft I have flown. Is this common to Mooney's? Besides experience, is there any way to mitigate the tendency to over control?
