  1. How does it compare with the Sandia display? Since i will probably have to to a field approval, i was leaning towards the sandia unit. Half the price... and its only a stand by .... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Well, you are correct, and Paul as well. I talked to Jim today and he very kindly confirmed The ESI-500 is stand by for all steam gauges. Thanks all for the help. Now I can decide. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Korto, it is correct. With the ESI you do get airspeed, altitude, nav, SV and track heading... however, the only function for which it can be a legal stand by for is Attitude. You still have to have stand by airspeed and altitude indicators. With the sai 340 you can remove all three (attitude, airspeed and altimeter) since it is legal as stand by for all three. Just in case and to confirm I will call L3 tomorrow to verify what their stc is valid for.... thanks for input! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Downside to the ESI-500 is that it is only std by for Attitude. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Yeah, I have a friendly avionics shop willing to do it, but i'd rather go legal and get alternative such as the ESI-500 or Sandia 340 Quattro. The latter is legal for stand by attitude, altitude, airspeed and vsi... Basically can do away with all the steam gauges. I would need to get a field approval for the J I think, working on that. Any inputs welcome! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Where did you do this install if I may ask? I want to do same install as Stand By AI. Then i can do away with my vacuum pump and all. I already have a G500...
  7. Hi Don; You still have WX-500? Looking to install on my Mooney.... Thanks! Humberto
  8. Go right ahead and get your bikes in your Mooney! Of course wheels off, but its perfectly doable even without removing back seat (just fold it). I go mountain biking with wife at least twice a year and we have process greased. Good luck! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. Thanks for input Marauder. It clarifies things... and confirms my feared need to spend another 12K on my plane.... (I have a standing agreement with my wife: Anything I spend on plane, she can spend on a house makeover....) Humberto.
  10. I regularly fly my J to south America via the Caribbean (Bahamas Dominican Republic Venezuela route). I always fly at over 10K highest at 15K. I find it hard to fly lower due to turbulence and I figure when flying above so much water better have more gliding range. Now I am planning a trip to Colombia and some MEAs are at 15K, so I want to have assurance I can reach 18K for safety. Any experience from anybody flying a non turbo between 15K and 18K?
  11. Hoeman; I have an identical set up to yours, with the exception I already have the flight stream 210 and I have an ADSB out solution via the GTX330ES coupled with the GTN and a G500. I use Foreflight with Stratus 2 inflight for weather and traffic (although I get a similar traffic picture via the GTX330ES), and I use Garmin Pilot for flight plans (It has international flight planning capabilities whereas FFM doesn't). I don't have any problems using both at the same time. I even get the situation information for FFM and Garmin Pilot from the AHRS on the aircraft via the Flightstream 210. if I want Forelight to obtain situation information from Stratus I can always go to "More, Devices" and then choose Stratus 2 as a source. Three questions to anybody on the thread: 1) I am getting some traffic solution on my G500. Since I do not have the GDL-88, I presume it is coming from the GTX330ES. How complete is this traffic picture (I asked the Garmin people at Oshkosh but got an answer which was not satisfactory- they were sales people and I not sure if the are just trying to push the GDL88). 2) Donaye mentioned "When on the ground at home I get all the Garmin weather apparently though the Wifi connection. In the air before I select otherwise a screen overlay dims the display and displays "Garmin weather not available". I then select either FIS-B or SXM, the screen lights up, and the weather shows up." I assume you have Sirius XM weather and/or GDL88 to get that info on the garmin pilot while on flight? 3) I'm curious to learn if FFM will be able to provide Weather and traffic from Stratus2 to my G500 via Flightstream or I am definitely forced to buy GDL88 to get that on the panel... One more comment: I find the Synthetic Vision on FFM ultra precise when compared to Garmin Pilot even though the navigation source is the same. I have tested repeteadly and can vouch to that effect. So good luck and let us know your experience!
  12. Staniel key is currently closed for repairs. But really cool spot to go to "piggy beach (my kids named it so for the swimming pigs). Easy to rent a boat even for a day trip is fun. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Robert; My panel is being put together by Sarasota Avionics in Lantana. Garret is the Tech, seems to be a pretty detail oriented guy. I will be able to be more precise after I get the bird...
  14. mark, Thank you for your advice. I took you up on it and ordered PMA450 for my plane. after looking over all details it looked like a better prospect. Besides, if Im not happy I know who to reach!! hahaha... Happy New year. Humberto.
  15. Jajajaja... Always equipped... Also, The goal s not necessarily to fly all those hours in one leg, but to be safer (over water flying in case of necessary deviations due to weather), and to be able to go places where fuel is not available/ or reliable for the return trip. Still don't have it back though, holidays got in the way.. Should be picking up tomorrow.
